She stared at the
crumpled up notebook page
and felt guilty. Not because of
what was said, but because of what
could have been said.
She had held a seed of a story
in her hand and then crushed it,
crushed it under her feet. She then tried
to write in her journal, but then she looked
at the dates,
which stacked up
against her
like sins,
reminding her that life was slipping through her fingers
which filled her with a profound sense of grief
for the seconds lost.
Even writing took seconds,
seconds that could have been spent doing other,
more productive things.
This terrified her with a terror
that grew unspeakable.
Even the music that
I wish I could get everything I want when I get flaming mad
Just like you
I wish I could be adorable, too
Just like her, then you’d see
Because as it stands I wanna set the world ablaze
But there’s nothing left to burn
Sometimes it feels like I’m a prisoner
Like I want to go nuclear
‘Cause all I wanted was an arms race
But you’re giving me armageddon
You’re giving me armageddon
I wish I could see into people’s heads
So then I would know what they were really thinking
I wish it could be true, wish I could see you
Wish you thought I was beautiful
Sometimes it feels like I’m a prisoner
Like I wa
When you’re in the middle of the forest,
Don’t worry about the miles ahead
When you’re in the middle of the ocean
Don’t miss the shore behind
Just put one foot in front of the other
Sooner than you know
Your trial shall be over.
For in small and simple things
Do great things come to pass.
